So I hiked all the way to Delicate Arch last night in Arches National Park in Utah. I hiked by myself in the dark 3 miles which was not easy. The path was hard to follow and especially difficult to maneuver in the dark. I replaced my battery with a new fully charged one and put anther on the charger before I began the trek. So I get all the way to the arch , set up and start to take my first photo. I lock the exposure open, move back and paint with my light. This was a test (more or less); I was going for at least a 10-15 min exposure, but my shutter stopped on its own after about 5 min. I got up and checked it out and it turns out that the battery I used was old and that's all the time it lasted - one shot. Can you believe it?! Grrrrr .... All that hiking and all I get is one try - one shot! Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. And to add insult to injury, on my way back a bird or bat flew up and hit me in the head .... scared the crap out of me! I may try to go back tonight, but to be honest, I don't really want to make that hike again ... even for another shot!
